DESCRIPTION:Shear failures in concrete are sudden and often catastrophic.
When we identify a structure as being weak in shear\, we can either knock
it down and start again\, we can attempt to restrict the applied loads\; o
r we can strengthen the existing structure. This research looks at how muc
h additional shear strength we can add to a slab-on-beam structure by wrap
ping the down-stand portion of the beam with externally bonded carbon fibr
e reinforced polymer (CFRP) fabric. In the first phase of this research\,
some oddly shaped push-off tests were carried out in order to investigate
shear transfer behaviour across a diagonal crack strengthened with CFRP. T
hese results and some possible implications will be discussed.
