DESCRIPTION:The Cambridge Review of International Affairs is pleased to an
nounce the first talk of our new speaker series\, featuring Daniel Drezner
\, professor of international politics at the Fletcher School of Law and D
iplomacy at Tufts University and a non-resident senior fellow at the Brook
ings Institution.\n\nProfessor Drezner is the author of four books\, inclu
ding The Sanctions Paradox\, All Politics Is Global and Theories of Intern
ational Politics and Zombies. He blogs about foreign policy and economics
for The Washington Post\, and tweets at @dandrezner.\n\nHis most recent bo
ok\, The System Worked: How the World Stopped Another Depression\, examine
s the major efforts by the IMF\, G-20\, WTO and other international econom
ic governance institutions in the wake of the 2008 financial crisis. Drezn
er contends that contrary to common assumptions about the failure of multi
lateral associations\, the international response was sufficiently coordin
ated to prevent the crisis from becoming a full-fledged depression. Moreov
er\, he argues\, the institutions have emerged from the crisis stronger an
d more resilient than they were before.\n\nThe talk will be followed by a
discussion chaired by CRIA Editor-in-Chief Maha Rafi Atal\, and light refr
 eshments will be served.
