DESCRIPTION:While app development has emerged in everywhere from smartphon
 es to wearable gadgets\, one of the most potential up-coming platforms is 
 vehicles\, for empowering “software-defined vehicles” that incorporate
  highly customizable computational intelligence and user-tailoring configu
 rability\, transforming our transportation experiences. However\, the auto
 motive industry has been slow to embrace this trend\, which imposed numero
 us hurdles. In this talk\, I examine the opportunities and challenges that
  lie ahead in vehicular app development. I also introduce the related rese
 arch projects in my group\, including an open-source platform for vehicula
 r apps\, and a real-time tracking app for vehicle movements.\n\nBio: Sid C
 hi-Kin Chau is an assistant professor of the Department of EECS at Masdar 
 Institute in Abu Dhabi\, UAE\, which is the world’s first graduate-level
  university dedicated to providing real-world solutions to issues of susta
 inability\, and was created in collaboration with MIT. Previously\, he was
  a visiting scholar at MIT\, a scientist at A*STAR in Singapore\, a Crouch
 er Foundation research fellow at University College London\, and a post-do
 ctoral research associate at University of Cambridge. He received the Ph.D
 . from University of Cambridge and B.Eng. from the Chinese University of H
 ong Kong.\n
