DESCRIPTION:Tetrahydrobiopterin is an essential cofactor a set of metaboli
c reactions. It is well known for its role in the four aromatic amino acid
hydroxylases (PAH) and three nitric oxide synthases (NOS). Recently we id
entified a gene coding for the integral membrane protein alkylglycerol mon
ooxygenase\, which catalyses a third destinct class of tetrahydrobiopterin
-dependent reactions. The cytokine-regulation of the enzyme in macrophages
provides a first glimpse on potential biological roles of this novel gene
 .
