DESCRIPTION:In this talk I will explore computational techniques for solvi
ng a free boundary problem posed on a surface. The problem is to divide a
surface into regions such that the sum of the first eigenvalue of the Diri
chlet Laplace-Beltrami operator over each region is minimized. Different r
elaxations of this problem will be explored. Each takes the form of large
system of partial differential equations which will be solved using algori
thms designed for high performance computing techniques.\n\n
