DESCRIPTION:\nEvery time that we produce or listen to speech\, we employ a
combination of semantic\, phonological and syntactic abilities. These dom
ains of language processing have different characteristics but they must f
unction cooperatively to enable efficient language behaviour. It is a non-
trivial exercise to assess degrees of dependence/independence of these thr
ee domains\; but one approach is to study performance on various tasks by
patients with a primary deficit in only one of the three domains. Patients
with semantic dementia have a relatively selective deterioration of seman
tics: does this affect their phonological and/or syntactic skills?\n
