DESCRIPTION:Landauer-Buttiker scattering formalism provides a well-establi
 shed\n framework for the description of stationary electron transport in s
 mall\n coherent structures. Recent generalizations allow calculation of th
 e\n current in the presence of a periodic external perturbation such as a\
 n surface-acoustic-wave-induced potential. We shall discuss in details the
 \n key concepts and assumptions underlying the formalism\, and demonstrate
 \n the simplicity of the actual calculation. Applicability of the theory t
 o\n real-world devices is gauged by comparing to recent measurements of\n 
 double quantum dot and carbon nanotube devices at NPL and Cambridge.\n
