DESCRIPTION:A Winton teatime discussion hosted by Dr Quentin Harmer\, CTO
of Endomagnetics. The company\, spun out form UCL in 2007\, is exploring
the use of nanotechnology for medical applications and Quentin will introd
uce their work and some of the future challenges in cancer research. \n\nA
bstract:\nAround the world the incidence of cancer is growing\, and with i
t the demand for better\, faster and cheaper solutions for diagnosis and t
reatment.\nEndomagnetics was founded to solve healthcare challenges throug
h the application of nanotechnology and advanced magnetic sensing technolo
gy. The SentiMag and Sienna+ device system was developed to increase acces
s to the standard of care in breast cancer staging by providing an alterna
tive approach to locating sentinel lymph nodes. The Endomagnetics system a
voids the requirement for traditional radioisotopes in sentinel lymph node
biopsy\, improving workflow and costs while increasing availability of th
e standard of care.\nThis talk will touch upon some of the challenges of d
eveloping a new nanotechnology-based product and translating it to the cli
nic. \n\nBio:\nDr Quentin Harmer is CTO at Endomagnetics Ltd with more t
han fifteen years experience in leading the development of advanced medica
l devices and drug-device combination products. \nQuentin joined Endom
agnetics from Vectura Group plc where he served as Project Director respon
sible for the development of novel inhaler products. Prior to joining Vec
tura he served at Cambridge Consultants Ltd\, working with client companie
s in the healthcare\, industrial\, consumer products\, and automotive indu
stries. He is an inventor on numerous patents\, and many of these have be
en licensed to leading pharmaceutical companies. \nQuentin holds a PhD in
Engineering Design and an MA in Engineering\, both from the University of
Cambridge. He is a Chartered Engineer and member of the Institute of Eng
 ineering Technology.
