DESCRIPTION:The ability to extract some level of 'meaning' from unstructur
ed\ninformation has produced one of the fastest-growing sectors of the\nso
ftware industry. After an introduction to practical MBC systems this\nsemi
nar will concentrate on two aspects: firstly\, an examination of\nthe secu
 rity issues posed by pan-enterprise information access\; and\nsecondly\, a
discussion of applications of MBC to security areas such as\nvideo analys
is and data fusion. What do you do when you don't even\nknow what the ques
tion is to search on?\n\nTopics touched on will include information retrie
val\, access\nenablement in disperse systems\, relevant security architect
 ures\, data\nfusion\,speech recognition\, and intelligent scene analysis\n
\nFollowing a Cambridge PhD in pattern recognition\, Mike Lynch founded\nA
utonomy in 1996 and rapidly established the company's reputation as\nthe w
orld's leading provider of meaning based technologies. In\nDecember 2005 h
e announced the completion of Autonomy's $500 million\nacquisition of form
er competitor Verity\, a deal which consolidated\nAutonomy's position as n
umber one in the market with a market\ncapitalization of over $1.6 billion
.\n\nHe has received many accolades\, including the Electrical Engineer's\
nmedal for outstanding achievement\, the Confederation of British\nIndustr
y's Entrepreneur of the Year award and an OBE.\n
