DESCRIPTION:Alejandro Vinao (http://www.vinao.com/) is currently composer 
 in residence at the\nComputer Laboratory. His work pushes the boundaries o
 f music\nnotation\, with complex processes interacting in real time\, and\
 nchanging in ways that cannot easily be represented. He and Alan\nBlackwel
 l will discuss current techniques in the representation\nof digital music\
 , including some review of the developing\npractice of artists programming
  on-stage\, generating music\nsynthesis programs on the fly in front of a 
 live audience. Viñao\nhas received a number of international prizes and a
 wards\, has\nbeen played and broadcast throughout Europe and the U.S.A\, a
 nd\nfeatured in international festivals. He has received commissions\nfrom
  institutions including IRCAM in France\, M.I.T.\, the BBC\nSymphony Orche
 stra and the Kronos quartet. During the 80's Viñao\nworked at IRCAM at re
 gular intervals and in 1987 he was composer\nin residence at M.I.T.
