DESCRIPTION:Dirk Pieter\, is Associate Professor Production/Operations Man
 agement\, Faculty of Management and Organisation\, University of Groningen
 \, The Netherlands. His interests are in Operations\, including Supply Cha
 ins\, Management particularly in the food industry. His research considers
  such areas as planning\, flexibility\, integration\, information\, and co
 mmunication. He is also a reviewer for many academic journals in these are
 as. Dirk Pieter is currently visiting Oxford University's Said Business Sc
 hool at the invitation of Charles Scott & Roy Westbrook whose work many of
  you will have read and admired.\n\nDirk Pieter has also agreed to stay in
  Cambridge until the afternoon to lead a more informal session discussing 
 his thoughts on topics close to his areas of research and interest. Why no
