DESCRIPTION:A mobile device's battery lifetime\, privacy\, and smart use p
resent challenges for the user\, the developer and the device manufacturer
. To get a good view of real smartphone world\, we have conducted a collab
orative analysis application called Carat (http://carat.cs.helsinki.fi/)\,
which have collected measurements from over 750.000 mobile devices all ov
er the world since 2012. Our current research aims to find new ways to loo
k at the mobile device's whole state\, including system settings\, subsyst
em variables\, applications\, ambient context\, and user intents. The rese
arch aims to develop better energy models\, tools\, and recommendations on
how to improve the device's operation.\n\nElla Peltonen is a PhD student
and a researcher in the NODES group led by professor Sasu Tarkoma\, at Uni
versity of Helsinki\, Finland. Her research interests include distributed
machine learning and data mining methods for large and ambiguous data sets
. Her current work focuses on analysis applications for mobile sensing dat
 a. She will stay this October in Cambridge.\n
