SUMMARY:Semantic Modelling of Point Clouds for Infrastructure - Viorica Pa
traucean Research Associate - Structures Group

DESCRIPTION:Building Information Models (BIMs) are becoming the official s
tandard in the construction industry for encoding\, reusing\, and exchangi
ng information about structural assets. Automatically generating such repr
esentations for existing assets is the focus of extended research efforts
in various communities (Computer Vision\, Civil Engineering\, Geometry Pro
cessing). The main steps involved in the process are: 3D reconstruction\,
geometric modelling\, and point cloud to BIM conversion. In this talk\, th
e first two steps will be discussed\, and on-going research works will be
presented\, targeting the semantic modelling of point clouds of bridges.
