DESCRIPTION:Supercapacitors are energy storage systems\, complementary to
batteries\, already used in a number of applications such as regenerative
energy braking and start-stop systems. While supercapacitors are already f
avored for applications requiring large power densities\, they still suffe
r from low energy densities\, compared to batteries\, which limits their u
se. Understanding the molecular processes at the origin of the observed pe
rformances is essential in order to design optimised systems. In this talk
\, I will show examples of how simulations can be used to get insight into
the charging/discharging mechanisms of supercapacitors and to explain exp
 erimental observations\, sometimes surprising.
