the 1800's were diverse and pervasive. Instruments were used in a wide var
iety of activities including research and observation\, navigation\, surve

ertainment. Dr Baker will explore these technologies and the thriving trad
e in them in eighteenth-century London. There\, hundreds of preindustrial
workshops and retail shops churned out instruments for use across Britain\
 , Europe\, and their colonies.
