DESCRIPTION:Stem cell research has become very popular in the last decade.
Stem cell researchers are often in the news either by claiming new and pr
omising cell therapies for several and incurable diseases\, or by declarin
g new controversies about the potential of these cells. But what kind of s
tem cells are there and what is the true potential achieved so far in rege
nerative medicine? How valuable are they as tools for research and therapy
? And what are the advantages and limitations of different types of stem c
ells for different uses? In this seminar we will describe the different ty
pes of stem cells. We will talk about the differences between embryonic st
em cells (ESC)\, induced-pluripotent stem cells (iPS) and adult or tissue
stem cells. And we will show you how stem cells are used as research tools
as well as their potential applications in regenerative medicine.
