DESCRIPTION:1st year graduate seminar\n\nThe specialisation of petal surfa
ces to enhance grip for pollinators has recently been identified as an ada
ptation to improve pollination success. Despite the fact that grip may be
a limiting factor for plant-pollinator interactions in many situations\, t
he wider importance of grip in pollination is little known. Understanding
the signficance of traits mediating plant-pollinator interactions can give
insights into plant speciation as well as potentially having direct appli
cations in improving crop pollination. We will be using a variety of appr
oaches to first understand how petal surface texture interacts with pollin
ator tarsal morphology\, before then exploring the functional significance
of this in more specific situations.
