DESCRIPTION:Two of the most decisive historiographical and methodological
tools of STS have been a sharp focus on science in its local production an
d an increasing openness to visual materials (diagrams\, photographs). How
might we use film to advance the field by intensifying these orienting st
rategies? Using examples from historical\, ethnographic\, live action\, in
terviews\, and animation\, I will report on some ways that film might buil
d on and open up lines of inquiry in the study of 20th and early 21st cent
ury mix of science\, technology\, and politics.
