DESCRIPTION:Eco Machines: Designing the Cars of the Future\n\nBill Gates f
amously said that ‘If General Motors had kept up with technology like th
e computer industry\, we would all be driving $25 cars that go 1\,000 Mile
s per gallon’. Today’s vehicles may be faster than a hundred years ago
but overall progress is still slow.\n \nAnd while the world is more mobil
e than ever\, increased mobility has brought higher emissions\, more conge
stion and poor air quality.\n \nIt’s now down to the engineers of the fu
ture to push the boundaries of fuel efficiency and create cleaner\, low-ca
rbon vehicles that go further on the least amount of energy.\n \nSo what a
re the solutions?\n \nIn this evening of debate\, Intelligence Squared and
Shell bring together experts from the worlds of engineering\, design and
motor racing to discuss the goals and challenges of building tomorrow’s
cars today.\n \nThere will be a complementary food and drinks reception fr
om 6:00pm. The discussion will begin at 6:30pm and finish at 7.30pm. Pleas
e join us after the event for complementary drinks and a chance to meet th
e speakers.\n\nPlease click here for further details and to register to at

al challenge of designing\, building and racing low carbon vehicles.\n \nR
ichard Noble\, World Land Speed Record breaker and project director of Thr
 ustSSC\, on pushing the boundaries of auto-engineering.\n \nMark Preston\,
Former Technical Director of the Super Aguri F1 Formula One racing team o
n game changing eco-designs set to revolutionise motor-sports.\n \nJim Ske
a\, Professor of sustainable energy and member of the UK Committee on Clim
ate Change on the urgent need to improve energy technology.\n \nChair: Mat
thew Taylor\, Chief Executive of the Royal Society for the encouragement o
 f Arts\, Manufactures and Commerce (RSA).\n
