DESCRIPTION:Extragalactic X-ray surveys over the past decade have dramatic
ally\nimproved our understanding of the majority populations of active\nga
lactic nuclei (AGNs) over most of the history of the Universe. In\nthis ta
lk I will focus on the discoveries made from X-ray surveys on\nthe ecology
of distant AGNs - the connection between the growing black\nholes at the
centre of galaxies and the larger-scale environment.
