DESCRIPTION:Did life ever arise elsewhere in the Solar System? Mars is an
excellent candidate to search because it preserves rocks of approximately
the same time as when life is thought to have arisen on Earth. NASA's car
sized rover\, Curiosity\, has been exploring the surface of Gale crater fo
r over 2 years in the most complicated planetary exploration mission ever
undertaken. This mobile laboratory is studying the geology and chemistry o
f rocks on Mars to determine if the Red Planet could ever have been habita
ble for life. This talk will describe the rover's explorations\, and discu
 ss the latest findings.
