DESCRIPTION:*Margaret Faultless* is Director of Performance Studies in the
Faculty of Music at Cambridge\, Head of Historical Performance at the Roy
al Academy of Music\, London\, and co-leader of the Orchestra of the Age o
f Enlightenment. Today she examines examples of musical notation from a pe
rformer’s point of view\, and explains how notation is interpreted and l
eads to performance. Through musical examples\, played on the violin\, she
discusses what information about performance practice is contained within
the notation and how much is left to the performer’s imagination.
