DESCRIPTION:The Irish land question and land ownership were central compon
ents of Irish nationalism in the nineteenth century. UK government backed
land purchase schemes had long-term financial implications that became cen
tral issues when Ireland seceded from the United Kingdom. This project is
a quantitative study of bonds guaranteed by the UK government to finance t
he transfer of land ownership from landlords to tenants in Ireland (North
& South). These bonds were traded over a turbulent period of time and they
can help to answer how markets responded to Irish partition\, Independenc
 e\, Civil War and 'default'.
