DESCRIPTION:In 1991\, Nick Cox left BAS to establish a UK research station
  at Ny-Alesund\, Svalbard for NERC. In 1995\, BAS took over responsibility
  and ownership of the station. Ny-Alesund has blossomed into an internatio
 nal research village comprising 14 stations. Nick will talk about Svalbard
 's history\, geography\, and the UK station. Kevin Newsham\, who has visit
 ed the station on several occasions\, will talk about setting up scientifi
 c projects in Kings Bay.
