DESCRIPTION:The division of labour in European Prehistory is usually infer
red through indirect means\, for instance by analogy with ethnographic stu
dies. At present\, the study of skeletal activity-related morphologies see
ms to be the only way to directly question the existence of such a special
isation of cooperating individuals that characterizes almost all contempor
ary traditional societies. Dr Villotte will present some of these variatio
ns related to mechanical stresses experienced during life\, the many poten
tial pitfalls of this kind of study\, and several examples of analyses tha
t were used to infer the division of labour in Prehistory.
