DESCRIPTION:The entry of women to Higher Education from the latter part of
  the 19th century is best understood in the broader context of their strug
 gle to gain admission to many other activities previously reserved exclusi
 vely for men\, including the professions and political life. However the e
 mphasis of this talk will be on often-neglected features of their struggle
  rather than\, for example\, the suffragettes whose travails are already w
 ell documented.\n\nThis talk is open to the public and all members of the 
 university community and will be followed by drinks.
