DESCRIPTION:Brendan Simms's research focuses on the history of European fo
 reign policy.  He has written a variety of books and articles on this subj
 ect\, including The Struggle for Mastery in Germany\, 1779-1850 (1998)\; U
 nfinest Hour: Britain and the Destruction of Bosnia (2001)\; Three Victori
 es and a Defeat: The Rise and Fall of the First British Empire\, 1714-1783
  (2007)\; and his most recent book\, Europe: The Struggle for Supremacy\, 
 1453 to the Present (2013). In addition to his academic work\, Prof Simms 
 also serves as the co-president of The Henry Jackson Society\, which advoc
 ates the view that supporting and promoting liberal democracy and liberal 
 interventionism should be an integral part of Western foreign policy. He i
 s President of the Project for Democratic Union\, a Munich-based student-o
 rganised think tank\, and a Fellow of Peterhouse.
