DESCRIPTION:Given a Group G we let cs(G) denote the set of conjugacy class
sizes. Over the years group theory has allowed us to use the set cs(G) to
determine properties of the group. In this talk I will discuss a particul
ar subset corresponding to vanishing elements\, these are conjugacy classe
s of the group for which there exists a irreducible character which evalua
tes to zero on the class.\nIn particular I will focus on some of the tools
that have been developed to study these classes and. Then mention some st
ructural properties that vanishing classes can determine.
