DESCRIPTION:The first talk in a new series 'Lectures in the Humanities' ho
 sted by the Cambridge Humanities Review\, Professor of Modern Cultural His
 tory Peter Mandler will speak on his recent research on the history of uni
 versities and the effects of state patronage on humanities research\, a ta
 lk which will be of interest across the humanities. Professor Mandler writ
 es on the political\, social\, cultural and intellectual history of Britai
 n since 1800. His most recent publication is Return from the Natives: How 
 Margaret Mead Won the Second World War and Lost the Cold War (Yale\, 2013)
