DESCRIPTION:The second talk in the new 'Lectures in the Humanities Series'
 \, organised by the Cambridge Humanities Review\, will be delivered by the
  recently appointed Vere Harmsworth Professor of Imperial and Naval Histor
 y Alison Bashford\, discussing her book Global Population: history\, geopo
 litics and life on earth (Columbia University Press\, 2014). Global Popula
 tion traces the idea of a world population problem from the 1920s in terms
  of migration\, colonial expansion\, globalization and world food plans. P
 rofessor Bashford's research connects the history of modern science and me
 dicine\, imperial history and environmental history. Representatives of He
