DESCRIPTION:Is there a reason for doing mathematics? My focus is the stude
 nts' subjective reaction to mathematics and the factors that draw them awa
 y or close to it. Different stories will outline different perspectives of
  how a student can (dis)connect with the subject. Happy but also distressi
 ng stories because mathematics can be meaningful both in a positive and in
  a negative way. At least if we know how students feel maybe we can help t
 hem to change it. Especially if these feelings are connected with beliefs 
 about mathematics which could have been otherwise.\n
