SUMMARY:Mechanical factors underlying aortic stiffness\, aneurysms and dis
sections - Professor Jay Humphrey\, Yale School of Engineering &amp\; Appl
 ied Science
DTSTART:20141107T120000Z

CONTACT:Katja Kivinen
DESCRIPTION:Evidence over the past two decades has revealed the importance
of increased aortic stiffness as an initiator and indicator of cardiovasc
ular disease. In this talk we will discuss lessons learned from mouse mode
ls of aortic disease\, including “early vascular aging” and its relati
on to the development of aneurysms and dissections. We will focus on relat
ions of wall mechanics with underlying microstructure\, including unique r
oles of elastic fibers\, collagen\, and glycosaminoglycans.
LOCATION:Seminar Room 8\, Clinical School\, Addenbrooke's hospital
