DESCRIPTION:In my talk we will cover what constitutes a mathematically sol
ved game and the techniques used to solve them. We will then expand into t
he more interesting realm of partially solved or unsolved games\, what pra
cticalities limit them from being fully solved\, and what less rigorous bu
t more imaginative techniques are applied to them. Finally we will look at
other\, less theoretical applications of these techniques - how maximisin
g or semi-self-learning algorithms first explored in game solving have gre
at applications in the field of artificial intelligence.
