DESCRIPTION:Produced for BBC4 as part of a 'Why Poverty?' series\, 'Solar 
 Mamas' follows the stories of several women from rural communities who tra
 in to become solar-energy engineers.\n\nThe Barefoot College in India was 
 founded by Bunker Roy to provide knowledge and training to the rural poor 
 to empower them to make their communities self-reliant and sustainable. Th
 e solar course at Barefoot College has women from Kenya\, Burkina Faso\, C
 olumbia\, and Guatemala.\n\nThe screening will be followed by a talk from 
 Dr Bhaskar Vira\, Director of the University of Cambridge Conservation Res
 earch Institute (UCCRI). UCCRI highlights the importance of interdisciplin
 arity within biodiversity conservation\, not simply from a science aspect\
 , but including the social and economic perspectives.
