DESCRIPTION:Cellular penetration in India has grown tremendously in recent
  years and provides an opportunity to bridge the digital divide. However\,
  there is little understanding of the state of cellular data connectivity 
 in India. In this talk\, I present the first impressions of cellular data 
 network performance in India. I present a measurement framework designed s
 pecifically for remote deployments and intermittent connectivity. I then p
 resent an evaluation of three GSM based and one CDMA based cellular servic
 e providers done through active measurements conducted at rural\, semi-urb
 an\, and urban locations. Through analysis of about 450 hours of measureme
 nt data collected over a 3-month period\, I present availability\, through
 put\, and latency performance of cellular service providers and provide in
 sights into the architecture of the service provider networks.\n\n
