DESCRIPTION:An experimental study of torsionally oscillating spheres at lo
w Reynolds number is presented. A novel experimental system was developed
to control the oscillatory motion of spheres in a viscous fluid. The influ
ence of nearby solid boundary on the motion of the sphere and the generate
d fluid flow is explored. The rich behaviour which results from the intera
ction of pairs of spheres is detailed. \nFinally\, an array of multiple co
nnected spheres is devised which is capable of self-propulsion at low Reyn
 olds number.\n
