SUMMARY: The transport of active swimmers in shear flows - Dr Rachel Bearo

DESCRIPTION:Many micro-organisms such as bacteria and algae swim in fluid
environments. This swimming behaviour can interact with fluid motions to g
enerate transport which differs both from that experienced by passive trac
ers in flow and micro-swimmers in the absence of flow. Examples will inclu
de a mechanistic model for helical gravitactic phytoplankton and a model f
or slender bacteria which undergo run-and-tumble chemotaxis in a channel.
