 e Department of Physics will be giving a talk entitled\,\n\n  "Lossless En
 ergy Transport: The Magic of Superconductors" \n\n\nTime:   Thursday 20 No
 vember \, 5pm\nVenue: Bristol-Myers Squibb Lecture Theatre\, Department of
  Chemistry \n\nDr Sebastian received a PhD in Applied Physics at Stanford 
 University\, USA in 2006\, prior to which she completed an MBA at the Indi
 an Institute of Management (Ahmedabad)\, India and a BSc in Physics at the
  Women's Christian College (Chennai)\, India. She was awarded the Lee Oshe
 roff Richardson North American Science prize for her PhD work on frustrate
 d quantum magnets. In 2012 she was awarded the Young Scientist Medal in ma
 gnetism by the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics\, and the M
 oseley Medal by the Institute of Physics for her discoveries in frustrated
  quantum magnets\, heavy fermion systems\, and high temperature supercondu
 ctors. Dr Sebastian's research interests are in the area of correlated ele
 ctron systems\, particularly in novel materials. Her research focuses on t
 he search for emergent quantum phenomena in a variety of new materials und
 er extreme conditions.
