DESCRIPTION:As smartphones proliferate throughout society\, so too does th
e opportunity to leverage these devices to study\, understand\, and positi
vely affect human behavior. \n\nSmartphones are both increasingly powerful
computational devices\, as well evermore indispensable in our daily routi
nes -- making them an ideal tool for collecting data about daily life. \n\
nIn our research\, we have been examining how smartphone data and machine
learning can be used to learn about behavior in a variety of domains. In t
his talk\, I will describe two examples from our work using smartphones\,
in the domains of (1) psychology and well-being\, and (2) a smoking cessat
