DESCRIPTION:This is joint work with Henri Darmon and Victor Rotger. I will
  discuss some new "canonical points" on elliptic curves defined via weight
  one modular forms. Our constructions are in part conjectural\, supported 
 by theoretical and experimental evidence\, and give a unifying perspective
  on the two known constructions of global points (Heegner points and Stark
 -Heegner points).\nI may also briefly discuss an adaptation of these metho
 ds\, replacing Mordell Weil groups with groups of p-units to recover Gross
 -Stark p-units\, and a recent related theorem which touches on Hilbert's 1
 2th problem (Kronecker's dream of youth) for real quadratic fields.
