DESCRIPTION:I will discuss recent work which develops the theory of comple
x multiplication in the setting of Nekovar and Scholl’s "plectic motives
". In particular I will describe an explicit description of the plectic an
alogue of the Taniyama group. This generalises a theorem of Deligne in the
classical case\, and explains the ‘hidden symmetries’ in the classica
l theory of complex multiplication observed by Nekovar.
