DESCRIPTION:The colored Jones and HOMFLY polynomials are invariants of kno
 ts in the 3-sphere that\nare defined via the representation theory of quan
 tum sl(N). I will start by\nexplaining how these invariants generalize to 
 the case of tangles\, i.e. knot\nfragments in the 3-ball. For the case of 
 rational tangles\, I will introduce a\npicture-way of computing a categori
 fied version of colored HOMFLY\npolynomials\, thereby proving a tangle-ana
 logue of a conjecture of Gukov and\nStosic. Based on joint work with Mihaj
 lo Cekic and Jake Rasmussen.
