DESCRIPTION:Introduced by Prof Simon Griffin\, Professor of General Practi
 ce at the University of Cambridge\n\nDavid Pencheon will be talking about 
 the health\, social\, and wider impacts of climate change and unsustainabl
 e systems and lifestyles on the health of the public and the future of the
  NHS and wider health and care system.  What should health professionals\,
  health organisations and health systems (particularly the NHS) be doing t
 o address this\; and what are the cultural\, behavioural and research barr
 iers to creating a healthy and fair future?\n\nDavid Pencheon is a UK trai
 ned doctor and is currently Director of the Sustainable Development Unit [
 SDU] for NHS England and Public Health England.  The SDU develops organisa
 tions\, people\, tools\, and policy to help the NHS and Public Health syst
 em in England fulfil their potential as leading sustainable and low carbon
  organisations. The unit helps shape policy\, disseminates the best evalua
 ted practice on sustainable development\, promotes an appropriate health r
 elated response to climate change\, and develops programmes of organisatio
 nal and personal development in these areas for NHS\, public health\, and 
 social care organisations and teams.\nDavid Pencheon was previously Direct
 or of a Public Health Observatory in Cambridge from 2001 to 2007.  He has 
 worked as a clinical doctor in the NHS\, a joint Director of Public Health
 \, a Public Health Training Programme Director in the East of England\, wi
 th the NHS R&D programme\, and in rural China in the early 1990s with Save
  the Children Fund (UK).\nHis main interests and areas of research and pub
 lication are: sustainable development\; large scale transformational chang
 e\; health and climate change\; leadership\; strategy development\; underp
 inning policy and practice with good information and evidence\; training a
 nd professional development\, organisational development\, behaviour chang
 e\, social value\, innovation\, health informatics and decision support fo
 r health professionals\, patients and public.\n
