DESCRIPTION:*Abstract:*\nSecurity of our passwords is an everyday and very
pressing problem.\nUsers frequently reuse their passwords when authentica
ting to various\nonline services. Combined with the use of weak passwords
or\nhoneypot/phishing attacks\, this brings high risks to the security of\
nthe user's account information.\n\nWe invented a mechanism such that a us
er may employ a single simple\npassword to login to all websites securely\
 , with proven security\nagainst dictionary attacks\, phishing\, honeypots\
, or in many cases\,\neven malware. Our system is easy to deploy\, especia
lly if some single\nsign-on services such as Google Accounts\, Facebook\,
Microsoft\nPassport\, Yahoo employ this system. This is the first and only
system\nof its kind\, provably providing such strong security guarantees.
\n\n\n*Speaker bio:*\nAlptekin Küpçü has received his Ph.D. degree from
Brown University\nComputer Science Department in 2010. Since then\, he ha
s been working\nas an assistant professor at Koç University\, and leading
the\nCryptography\, Security & Privacy Research Group he has founded. His
\nresearch mainly focuses on applied cryptography\, and its intersection\n
 with cloud security\, privacy\, peer-to-peer networks\, and mechanism\ndes
ign. He has also led the development of the Brownie Cashlib\ncryptographic
library\, which is available as open source online. Dr.\nKüpçü has var
ious accomplishments including 2 patents pending\, 6\nfunded research proj
ects (for 4 of which he was the principal\ninvestigator)\, 2 European Unio
n COST Action management committee\nmemberships\, and Koç University Teac
hing Innovation Grant. For more\ninformation\, visit http://crypto.ku.edu.
