DESCRIPTION:In order to favor the comparison of the different direct dark
matter search data\, the experimental collaborations typically translate t
heir results into bounds or allowed regions within a specific model of dar
k matter interactions. The resulting claim of incompatibility between the
9.3 sigma evidence for dark matter in the DAMA experiment and the null res
ult of other experiments is itself model dependent.\nIn the first part of
this talk we will propose a simple method (and a code) to translate bounds
from one dark matter model to another\, thus going beyond the usual assum
ption of spin-independent or spin-dependent interactions. In the second pa
rt we will show that a fermion dark matter interacting through a light pse
udoscalar mediator can reconcile DAMA with the null experiments. In this m
odel\, the DAMA excess is also seen to be compatible with the gamma-ray ex
cess in the galactic center while reproducing the correct relic density.\n
