DESCRIPTION:The discovery of new materials with appealing functional prope
rties is challenging and such properties are often observed in complex oxi
des containing transition metals in intermediate or unusual oxidation stat
es which must be stabilised under special synthetic conditions.\n\nHigh-pr
essure and temperature synthesis is a powerful tool for stabilizing materi
als with unique structures and properties(“Hard-chemistry”) and one ca
n manipulate and tune those structures\, and therefore their properties\,
by modifying their anion lattices with “soft” reactions. Hence\, combi
nation of "hard-soft” oxide chemistry is appealing as a synthetic route
for new materials.\n\nThe success of this "hard-soft" chemistry approach i
n chromium perovskites along with some ternary Mn oxides (MnBO3) obtained
from high pressure will be presented and discussed.\n
