DESCRIPTION:This talk will give an overview of various fracturing phenomen
 a observed in geomaterials for engineering applications in geotechnical en
 gineering (grouting) and petroleum geomechnics (hydraulic fracturing). Res
 ults from experimental work and numerical simulations conducted at CUED wi
 ll be presented. Various microscopic mechanisms of fracturing of geomateri
 als will be discussed.
