DESCRIPTION:Without rotation\, the wake of a sphere is governed by a singl
e control\nparameter (the Reynolds number) and the dynamic régimes that a
re\nselected at low and moderate values of RE are well known. Here we\ncon
sider rotation of the sphere about an axis aligned with the outer\nflow. T
his second control parameter (Omega) does not break the\naxisymmetry of th
e setting but allows for a much richer bifurcation\nscenario. By investiga
ting the relevant base flows\, studying their\nlinear stability properties
and computing the corresponding fully\ndeveloped régimes we attempt to s
ystematically map out a large region\nof the parameter space and to relate
the observed behaviour to its\nnon-rotating counterpart.
