DESCRIPTION:Abstract: Everyone is familiar with the standard hydraulic jum
p\nobserved when a jet hits a horizontal surface in the presence of\ngravi
ty. However\, surprisingly little is known about the shape of the\nhydrau
lic jump when a jet hits an inclined plane. We discuss a simple\ntheory t
hat predicts the rise height of such a jump. In the second\npart of the t
alk\, we discuss the impact of a jet on a surface with\nbumps\, and observ
e some surprising connections with Einstein's theory\nof general relativit
 y. This is joint work with Andrew Belmonte\,\nKhalid Kamhawi\, and Jay Jo
 hnson.
