DESCRIPTION:Flows involving moving contact lines (MCLs) are widely found i
n nature and industry. A major challenge in modelling MCLs is that the con
ventional hydrodynamic theory combined with a no-slip boundary condition a
t the wall leads to a non-integrable stress singularity at the contact lin
 e. In this seminar I will first review the major theoretical models and co
mputational methods for moving contact lines\, and the main associated cha
llenges. Then I will introduce a recent computational model for practical
simulations of moving contact lines. The model borrows the idea from the l
arge eddy simulation in turbulence modeling\; it resolves the macroscale f
lows only while model the effect of MCLs using modified hydrodynamic theor
 ies.\n\n
